Artist Statement
This is an ongoing project that comes directly from the crib deaths of the 1972 Morgue Work. At that time my two children were three years old and a newborn. To see these infinitely sad deaths was terrifying to me, and yet death is a usual thing. Babies are dreams that do not come true, they are better, they become people. With a crib death, like theatre, timing is important and reason and logic are defied, even if medically explainable. Reason is often not reasonable, it defiles life. There pictures are about absence and pain, a pain that is then lived with but that will simply never leave.
